Before we get into it, let’s first explain that for the sake of this blog, we’re only looking at the strangest gambling strategies that don’t make sense. Yes, there are a few that might involve mathematical logic to them, but for the most part, none of the following strategies guarantee success.
Hot and Cold Numbers
Number one on our list is something you’re likely familiar with – hot and cold numbers. This is an unusual gambling strategy but a surprisingly common one. It follows the belief that you’ll bet on hot numbers (ones which come up regularly) or cold numbers (ones that don’t crop up often). Hot and cold number strategies follow the logic that betting on a specific number will result in wins because it is due to crop up. Of course, since almost all online casino games use random number generators, this logic just doesn’t work.
Letting Children or Pets Pick
Another of the strangest gambling strategies we’ve come across (admittedly on social media) is allowing your children or pets to determine your bets. We’ll start by saying that you should never allow your kids to get involved in your gambling activities. That’s a bad example to set and is tantamount to underage gambling. Allowing your pets a say in how you bet isn’t any better than using hot and cold numbers, birthdays, anniversaries or other lucky numbers when betting.
Betting Against Your Team
This is one of the gambling patterns where there is some logic – at least in terms of how you feel. By betting against your team to lose a sports match, you’re positively jinxing yourself. If your team loses, you’re sad for your team but also happy because you’ll win money. If your team wins, you’re sad you’ve lost money but happy because your team wins. The logic here is that either way, you win.
Asking yourself if you’d happily pay to watch your rivals lose is another way to go. Using this strange strategy doesn’t guarantee wins, but if you’re comfortable losing your cash for a positive sports result for your team, it’s worth exploring.

Another of the weird casino strategies we commonly see is “lucky articles”. Items such as lucky hats, shoes, and even undies regularly appear as part of some players’ strategies. It isn’t just lucky objects, though. Some players decide that betting on Wednesdays, rainy days, or at specific times is “lucky” for them. Of course, this is nonsense, too, although there is an argument you can make for playing outside of peak hours.
Do The Opposite Strategy
Probably one of the riskiest and strangest gambling strategies we see doesn’t have a name. Instead, we’ll call it the “do the opposite strategy”. Basically, whatever the optimal way to play a game is, you do the opposite. It’s built around the mistaken idea that playing a game by opting for the least likely bet or choosing the bet with the worst probability eventually leads to an epic win. Again, while there’s definitely truth in that the bets with the lowest probability pay the best, you must have a bankroll to sustain losing streaks (and there are plenty of those in store for you) when choosing this barmy strategy.
I’ve Already Won Once Logic
The next strategy is definitely not one of the most bizarre casino strategies that actually works. This one is hopeless. It basically sees you returning to play a game or visiting a casino where you previously had a lot of success. It’s common when you’re enduring losing streaks to think of better times. However, returning to your old stomping ground or firing up a slot you previously won decent sums on certainly doesn’t guarantee wins.
Acting on Dreams
We’ve saved the best until last – dreams. Nobody really understands what dreams are or how they work. However, we all know that dreams don’t represent reality. This, the strangest of gambling strategies, sees players actively bet according to whatever occurred in a dream. This makes arguably less sense than any of the other strange strategies we’ve seen since you’re effectively taking strategic gambling advice from your unconscious, which can regularly churn out the weirdest of scenarios. We all dream of winning immense sums and jackpots, but we’ll go out on a limb and say that if it happens to you, it won’t be because you’re following the steps you dreamt.
